Herne Bay Cruising Club – Opposing the Proposed Outfall Structure

The Larger Structure shown in this Figure is the Existing Outfall
Reference: Resource Consent Application, Feb 2004, file V02512; page 5

The existing outfall shown above passes through 41 Marine Parade and then exits close to the low tide mark. Using this location for an upgraded outfall offers the same improvements to the stormwater system, but has a number of advantages:
it does not introduce another structure into the Coastal Marine Area
an upgraded pipe at this location would carry discharges much further from the shore, keeping pollutants and rubbish further away from Sloanes Beach
the structure of the rock shelf at this location allows the pipe to be buried, yet still exit above the surrounding mud level, thereby minimizing the visual impact
there is no risk of increased erosion on Sloanes Beach
the amenity values of Sloanes Beach are preserved.

These are overwhelming advantages that outweigh any short term inconvenience to those affected by this upgrade option. The consent application fails to present any substantive arguments as to why this option is not being pursued despite its clear advantages.
